F.A.Q.

How do I become a certified WetSuit applicator?

Steps to becoming a Certified WetSuit Applicator:

  1. Complete and submit the Applicator Pre-Qualification Form (PDF)
  2. Pre-qualification review with Neptune Coatings for approval
  3. Invitation for a meeting and hands-on experience at Neptune Coating's facility in Las Vegas, NV (Optional. Customer responsible for travel expenses.)
  4. Sign Applicator Agreement
  5. Purchase of application equipment and WetSuit material
  6. On-site training by Neptune Coatings

Does the WetSuit material require specialized equipment to apply?

Yes. The equipment is patent pending. Because the raw material is sensitive to friction, a conventional paint sprayer would be clogged in seconds. The equipment is low pressure applied and has a custom built gun. WetSuit One-Part and Trowel grade are available to the public in one and five gallon pails.

How much does the equipment cost?

Price upon application.

What is the difference between WetSuit and WetSuit 1-Part?

The WetSuit® has a water catalyst that creates an 80% cure within the first 3 seconds. This allows for the membrane to be sprayed to ANY mil thickness in one coat! The One-Part is just that, one-part, no catalyst. The chemistry is similar, but instead of an instant set, it flows and self-levels. This can be applied up to 80 wet mils vertical.

How many square feet will a 55 gallon kit of material cover?

This depends on the surface profile of the substrate, smooth or irregular, as well as the thickness specified. By the books, 60 mils dry will yield 18 square feet per gallon.

What is the minimum mil thickness of the dry membrane?

  • Roofing: 60 mil dry
  • Waterproofing: 80 mil dry vertical. 100 mil dry horizontal
  • Air/Vapor barrier: 35 mil dry

How many square feet can be applied in a day?

A three man crew can apply between 8,000 to 10,000 square feet per day once the substrate has been prepared.

What are the application temperatures?

WetSuit is waterbased and contains no VOC’s. It cannot be applied in freezing conditions.

Does WetSuit come in other colors?

In the words of Henry Ford,"You can have any color you want, as long as it’s black.”

What topcoats do you recommend?

Generally Acrylic Elastomerics with a minimum elongation of 300%. There are other options including solvent and ceramic based coatings as well. Please call Neptune Coatings for more information.

I cannot find a WetSuit applicator in my area. Can you recommend an applicator that can travel?

We have numerous contractors that are national and regularly work out of state and would be glad to quote your project.

How many years have WetSuit been around?

WetSuit was invented 16 years ago by David Smith. He perfected the chemistry and the application equipment. After many years of private testing both in the lab and out in the field, the product went on the market.

What warranties are available?

5, 10, 15 and 20 year warranties are available for roofing and waterproofing. Contact Neptune Coatings for prices and further details.

Which substrates can WetSuit be applied?

WetSuit has been successfully applied to: concrete, mod bit, asphalt, EPDM, TPO, gypsum board, fiber board, ISO, EPS, XPS, metal, plywood and OSB, fabrics and felts.

Are specifications or detail drawings available?
